Ride The River
Ride
the River takes place yearly on Father’s Day. There are several
different routes that riders can take on this two-state ride. The
highlight of the annual ride is always the barge that carries
bicyclists across the Mississippi River.
The
basic route is 18 miles long. There are signs posted for longer rides
that reach up to 60 miles. The morning ride begins at the Union Station
Headquarters in Davenport Iowa. If you signed up for a boat crossing,
you then ride to Leach Park, where you cross on the Celebration Belle
to Moline, where you follow a map to the turn around. The trip back
across the River is via the historic Centennial Bridge in Rock Island.
Another option in crossing the River is the Arsenal Bridge on the way
to Moline, and the Centennial Bridge going back to Davenport.
The
basic route travels to East Moline’s The Quarter District. An optional
longer loop reaches as far upriver as Cordova(Link to) before the turn
around back to Davenport. In all, it’s possible to visit nine different
communities and even mountain bike on Sylvan Island for those more
adventurous riders.
